Performance Evaluation
Equine athletes are susceptible to degenerative joint stress due to the high-intensity exercise they endure during regular training and showing. In these instances, a horse's performance may be reduced, although they are still capable of doing their jobs. This proactive approach enables the Alta Equine team to detect performance-limiting ailments before they become problematic and produce a lameness. Regular performance evaluations enable trainers and riders to develop training programs customized to their equine athletes.
Performance evaluations typically include:
Review of the horse's usual working program, competition schedule and medical history.
Evaluation of your horse, including lunge line and under saddle (preferably with the usual rider). If needed, discipline-related movements assessment, etc.
Hoof evaluation
Dental evaluation
Saddle fit, bridle fit
Nutritional consult
Assessment of your horse's recovery after a competition or a period of intensive work.
Optional evaluations include:
Acupuncture evaluation
Chiropractic evaluation
Lab work to assess muscle function
To optimize performance, we recommend regular performance evaluation exams be done every 4-6 months, depending on your horse's work level. These evaluations ensure that with the intensification of training or competitions, health is maintained, the horse tolerates their work, recovers after competitions, and doesn't develop any clinically imperceptible problems.
