Osteoarthritis
Prompt identification and intervention are critical to slowing the progression of osteoarthritis (classically abbreviated OA). Initial clinical signs can be subtle and easily missed, ultimately leading to rapidly occurring arthritic change.
Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES)
Often horses out of work due to illness or injury experience muscle wasting or "atrophy." FES can be a valuable tool in maintaining muscle mass, rebuilding tone, and improving new muscle quality in rehabbing or recovering horses.
Equine Gastric Ulcers
One of the most common problems affecting performance horses is gastric ulceration, erosive disease of the stomach. According to the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP), "Up to 90 percent of racehorses and 60 percent of show horses, as well as non-performance horses and even foals, are affected by equine gastric ulcers".
Pre-Purchase Radiographs
Radiographs are commonplace in pre-purchase exams. Several factors play part in this recommendation such as corroborating clinical findings, uncovering potential sources of lameness, or simply to serve as a baseline. The following is a list of recommended views for a standard sport horse pre-purchase
Core Vaccines
Regular vaccinations can protect your horse from infectious diseases such as West Nile Virus, Equine Influenza, Rabies, Tetanus, Rhinopneumonitis, and Encephalomyelopathies (sleeping sickness).
